Label Review.

1977 album.

Our Overview.

Following their exhausting 1974 world tour, the popular trio took a break before starting work on their next album which wouldn’t be released until March 1977. The concept was a double album with each band member having a side to write and arrange himself and then the final side would be the whole band coming together for an encore.

The album initially saw a dip in the bands commercial fortunes but a few months after the albums release, their label Atlantic issued their version of Aaron Copeland’s ‘Fanfare For The Common Man’ as a single. It stormed up the charts, peaking at No.2 and it pushed the parent album back into charts for the summer. A second volume of tracks from the sessions became ‘Volume 2’ in the autumn whilst the band were mid-way through their ‘Works World Tour’. It would be the band’s final flush of success. Only a year later the group found themselves washed up on the ‘Love Beach’ and they disbanded.
