Joshua Tillman, better known as Father John Misty will release God’s Favorite Customer, his fourth album, worldwide on 1st June 2018 via Bella Union in the UK/Europe and Sub Pop in the rest of the world. Tillman self-produced God’s Favorite Customer, which he recorded with Foxygen’s Jonathan Rado, Dave Cerminara, and Trevor Spencer. It includes contributions from Natalie Mering (aka Weyes Blood), the Haxan Cloak, Jonathan Wilson, and members of the FJM touring band. The new LP is Tillman’s fourth under the Father John Misty moniker. It follows last year’s ‘Pure Comedy’ which earned a Grammy for Best Recording Package.
Written largely in New York between Summer 2016 and Winter 2017, ‘God’s Favorite Customer’ reflects on the experience of being caught between the vertigo of heartbreak and the manic throes of freedom. It reveals a bitter sweetness and directness in Tillman’s songwriting, without sacrificing any of his wit or taste or the absurd. These are songs that demand to know either real love or what comes after and as the album progresses, that entreaty leads to discovering the latter’s true stakes.

"Disappointing Diamonds Are the Rarest of Them All" finds Father John Misty cutting through a rollicking mix of piano, drums and guitar with a cheeky falsetto vocal performance. "Like an oil tanker tipped at sea this love’s contaminated me," he sings, "Like a constant twitching in my eye this love of ours will never die."
On "Just Dumb Enough to Try," Father John Misty embraces the role of the sad-sack balladeer. "I know a few ten-cent words I can break out to keep up with her," he croons over a brooding piano melody, "But you can take what I know about love and drown it in the sink."
