Label Review.

2016 album.

Our Overview.

The Pixies’s influence stand alongside many of the very best bands in rock and roll history. Kurt Cobain openly admitted that the now-legendary guitar intro to “Smells Like Teen Spirit” was a Pixies rip-off while Thom Yorke, Bono, and David Bowie have also sang the band’s praises.

Six weeks in pre-production, writing and arranging a selection of songs, honing down to 12 for the final album, this is the first album since the start of the group’s career on which the songs were fully planned out before recording began in London in February.“This was a wonderful luxury, for us to have the time to be able to really work these new songs out,” said drummer David Lovering. “By the time we started recording, we all knew the songs backwards and forwards, so it took half as long for us to make this album as it did to make Indie Cindy. ”

Produced by Tom Dalgety, Head Carrier; the second album of their post-reunion phase, sees the band’s sound reaching back to their heyday. “It has a bit of early Pixies slosh in it,” Frank Black told the BBC 6 Music in an interview. “A certain amount of neatness. It’s definitely not as a Indie Cindy or a Trompe le Monde or whatever. It’s a little more a similar landscape, more like Doolittle I suppose.”
