Our Overview.

America’s southern soul, R&B singing duo James and Bobby Purify’s biggest hit was the classic “I’m Your Puppet” released in 1966, written by yet another powerful duo in R&B circles at the time, the writers Dan Penn and Spooner Oldham. After that top ten soul and pop success, they had more modest, top 30 R&B success with “Wish You Didn’t Have To Go,” then made the top 20 with “Shake A Tail Feather.”

The pair originally formed in 1965 by cousins James Purify and Bobby Purify (real name Robert LeeDickey) who adopted his cousins name for the act. Robert retired from the music scene for health reasons in 1969 and was replaced by Ben Moore who again touch on the stage name of Bobby.

This fabulous 2CD set is named after their biggest hit and includes all of James And Bobby Purify’s recordings during that dizzy four year period, including both LPs, all non-album tracks and a clutch of recordings which only surfaced in 2002. Many tracks are currently unavailable on CD.
