Our Overview.
Morten Harket (vocals), Magne Furuholmen (keyboards) and Pål Waaktaar-Savoy (guitars) formed A-ha in 1982 in their native Norway but moved to London in order to find success. They achieved this three years later when their synth pop track “Take On Me” made No.2 in the UK and became a big smash everywhere else, including No.1 in the US; helped along with an attractive video which utilized pencil sketch animation over live action footage, a technique called ‘rotoscoping’.
All four singles from their debut album ‘Hunting High & Low’ made the Top 10 in the UK, one of which, “The Sun Always Shines On TV” made the top spot. There were another three Top 10s in the next year which included the theme tune to the 1987 James Bond film “The Living Daylights”. The band continued to score more hit singles and albums until 1994 which is when they split up for the first time. They reformed in the late 90s and until their “Farewell” tour in 2010, the band continued to play to packed houses around the world and racked up another four studio albums in process.
They reformed a second for the 2015 album ‘Cast In Steel’ which saw them reach their highest chart placing in the UK since their 80s heyday. It was their tenth album and this show recorded for MTV Unplugged series sees the band mining their extensive catalogue in an acoustic setting offering fans a different angle for some of their classic pop hits.
