August will see the release of We Banjo 3’s - one of the best live acts to come out of Ireland in recent years, the multi-award winning quartet, whose virtuosic Irish/Bluegrass/Americana blend continues to reach freshly dizzying heights - sixth album, ‘Roots to Rise LIVE’, which was recorded over two sold out nights at world famous folk music venue, The Ark in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Featuring many of the band’s best loved tunes and songs, plus a couple of previously unreleased tracks (and a surprise Stevie Wonder cameo!), Roots to Rise LIVE captures the magic atmosphere of what has become a legendary live show.
We Banjo 3 combine supergroup credentials with a breath-taking command of the emotive power of fiddle, guitar, mandolin and banjo. Any single member of this group could a electrify a venue with a solo performance, but together, in the joyous musical alchemy of We Banjo 3, their passionate lead vocalist like a young Springsteen adopted by the Chieftans, the result is truly unforgettable. Simply put, the gold standard of Irish and American roots music.
The essence of We Banjo 3’s mastery, and ultimately the secret of their staggering artistic power, is their uncanny ability to channel the playful and celebratory dimensions of traditional Irish and American music. They write and perform with emotion, with incalculable brio and inventiveness, with power and subtlety and intelligence. But most of all, these four brothers write and play bravely. It is as if their standing as one of the best bands of their generation – and indeed as if the widely expressed opinion that their emergence represents a bright future for Irish music – was nothing when compared to the spirit of the tunes.
The last few years have seen a huge surge in the band’s popularity propelling them to the headlining slot at all the major Irish festivals in the US and featuring widely on the Bluegrass and Folk music circuits. We Banjo 3 have also garnered some major international awards including RTE Folk Awards Album of the Year, and they are the first Irish band ever to top the Billboard Bluegrass Album Chart in the US. 2019 will see the band touring widely across the USA and Canada, an Irish tour in September including concerts in Dublin, Cork, Derryand of course, Galway, and rounding out the year touring Japan with Talisk and Sharon Shannon. Roots To Rise LIVE will be officially launched in USA on July 19th at GreyFox Bluegrass Music Festival in upstate New York, and subsequently launched every weekend thereafter until at least January!
